Box Of Synths is a software synth that designs sounds based on what you type, from a database of measured synths and years of extensive research, or from a local model through Ollama. The beta reached capacity and is closed. The official release, free and Pro, lands in early October.

Words into sounds
Say what you want to hear in plain words. A pad that sounds like being underwater, a bass that sits under a distorted guitar, or your favourite retro game.

Using the database
We measured real synthesisers and studied the sounds behind famous records and the contexts they were made in. It is there as an alternative to AI, if you choose.

The beta filled up, so the downloads are off. The official release is next, in early October, with a free Box Of Synths and a Pro one. Leave your email and we tell you the day it lands, and nothing else until then.

Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. The beta cost nothing and needed no card, and the official release coming in early October has a free Box Of Synths too.
Why is the beta closed?
It reached capacity. We capped it so we could read every report and answer every message, and the places went in under a week. Thank you to everyone who joined.
When is the official release?
Early October, date to be confirmed. There will be a free Box Of Synths and a Pro one. Sign up to the newsletter and we email you the day it lands.
I already have the beta. Does it still work?
Yes. Your build keeps running, codes still go to the address you signed up with, and the database keeps answering. Nothing changes for you until the official release, and we will email you about that if you left the updates box ticked.
I downloaded it but never got a code. Why?
The database only sends codes to addresses that signed up on this site while the beta was open. If you asked after it closed, you got an email saying so. The official release is the next chance, and the newsletter is how you hear about it first.
What does it run on?
Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel, macOS 11 or later), Windows 10 or later, and Linux. It comes as a standalone app, VST3, and AU on the Mac.
Can I use the sounds in my own music?
Yes. The sounds you design are yours, in commercial releases too.
What happens to what I type?
Requests to the database are recorded with your email and install ID so we can run the service, keep it secure and make the results better. Ollama designs on your own computer; what it shares with us depends on two things you choose in the plugin: database-assisted Ollama, and how much usage you share. The policy page has the detail.
Something broke. What do I do?
It is a beta, so it will happen. Tell us what happened and we will reply by email.
Is there an AAX version for Pro Tools?
Not yet. AAX comes once the stable version is out. Until then it is VST3, AU on the Mac and the standalone app.
What comes next?
The official release, early October: a free Box Of Synths and a Pro one, with accounts and more AI options. Its shape comes from your feedback and from how people used the beta. We want to make the best thing we can.
