# Box Of Synths

> Synth your Synth. Box Of Synths is offering a free BETA software
> synth that designs sounds based on what you type. It works either from a
> database of measured synths and years of extensive research, or from a
> local model through Ollama.

## How it works

- **Words into sounds.** Say what you want to hear in plain words. A pad
  that sounds like being underwater, a bass that sits under a distorted
  guitar, or your favourite retro game.
- **Using the database.** We measured real synthesisers and studied the
  sounds behind famous records and the contexts they were made in. It is
  there as an alternative to AI, if you choose.
- **Or Ollama.** Prefer a model of your own? Point Box Of Synths at Ollama
  and it designs on your computer.

## The beta

- Free. No card, no account and no password.
- Limited to the first 1,000 signups. When the places are gone the download
  buttons switch off until the stable version, which will be open to
  everyone.
- Standalone app, VST3, and AU on the Mac. Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel,
  macOS 11 or later), Windows 10 or later, and Linux.
- The Mac installer is signed and notarised by Apple. The Windows installer
  is not signed yet. AAX for Pro Tools comes once the stable version is out.
- The sounds you design are yours, in commercial releases too.

## Downloading

Downloads are at /#download. We ask for the email you will use in the
plugin: on first run it sends a six-digit code to that address, and the
code opens the database. Designing through Ollama needs no sign-in in the
plugin.
